British High Commissioner makes an official visit to Galle (26/10/2009)
The British High Commissioner Dr. Peter Hayes made an official visit to Galle on October 23rd. During his visit, he opened the new student hostel at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna. The medical students 'new hostel in Karapitiya has been built to replace a building in Magalle, which was washed out during the tsunami of 26th December 2004. This project was designed and conceived as a joint venture between MAGE (Medical Aid to Galle and Environs - a British charity) and the Medical Faculty of Ruhuna University.
Speaking at the opening of student hostel as the Chief Guest British High Commissioner said "This hostel is an investment in the future and further strengthens the ties between the UK and Sri Lanka."
The High Commissioner had meetings with the Southern Range DIG of Police, the Southern Province Governor, Galle district political party representatives from the UPFA, UNP and JVP.
In addition, the High Commissioner visited the Kitulampitiya Orphanage, Galle National Maritime Museum and the Kaluthara Bodhiya.
