High Commissioner's visit to the Hill Country
On February 23rd the British High Commissioner, H.E. Dr. Peter Hayes made an official visit to the Hill Country. High Commissioner Hayes met with Mrs. Anushia Sivarajah, Vice President of Ceylon Worker Congress, Hon. Minister Chandrasekeran of the Upcountry Peoples Front, the newly appointed Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake and S.B Dissanayake. The High Commissioner was briefed on the political environment in the Hill Country and the problems faced by the estate communities.
He visited Trinity College, John Knox International School, the Mentally Handicapped Children and Families Education project and the Hidramani Factory. The High Commissioner also visited the Victoria reservoir, which was built using British Technology and opened by Margaret Tratcher in 1985. During his visit, he inaugurated the British Council’s Education Exhibition in Kandy.
